A Business Built on Friendship

After the inception of the idea in March 2021, Roots has grown from a conversation between friends into a brand which stands for healthy living, honest food and authentic customer interactions. Roots trades from a vibrant food truck in Monkstown and soon to be Drury Street – offering acai/ dragonfruit smoothie bowls, specialty coffee, seasonal porridge and artisan vegan/non- vegan treats.

What is Acai?

One of the most delicious and nutritious tings nature has gifted us Açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) Found on açaí palm trees in South American rainforests, açaí berries look a little like blueberries but pack way more of a punch. The seed takes up about 80% of the berry, but the flesh and skin pack plenty of vitamins and other nutrients in the remaining 20%. This 20% comprises the pulp we use to create our rooty tooty smoothie bases. Acai contains antioxidants which are thought to protect cells from damage. Acai berries are believed to have more antioxidant content than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry. Chemicals in acai can also reduce swelling, lower blood sugar levels, and stimulate the immune system.

What is Dragon Fruit?

Dragon fruit is high in vitamin C and other antioxidants, which are good for your immune system. It can boost your iron levels. Iron is important for moving oxygen through your body and giving you energy, and dragon fruit has iron. And the vitamin C in dragon fruit helps your body take in and use the iron. It is also vegan and no dragons were harmed in it’s production.

Excited and Delighted’ Roots to open second location in Greystones

“After a journey steeped in Trial and Error to create “the most peng juices possible”, the opening of Roots 2.0 at the Boatyard in Greystones is imminent.

Owners of the hugely popular Monkstown food truck Conor and Dave have been putting the finishing touches on their second location, a mammoth-sized horsebox they’ve dubbed the “Frankenstein of horseboxes”. Plenty of space for filming jazzy reels and juicing up a storm, no doubt.”

Roots open a second location in Greystones

The team import their acai directly from Brazilian farmers, and it contains no colours, flavours or artificial preservatives. Most Acai in Ireland is sourced from the same importer, who sells it preformatted into a sorbet for storage and distribution reasons. While this is still good, the extra work it takes to import fresh unaltered acai from South America in your first year of business is both notable and exemplary.

The top foodie spots I tried in Dublin this summer

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect acai bowl, and after missing out on them one Saturday afternoon at Bushy Park Market, I decided to hunt Roots down at their home in Monkstown one sunny July day. Not only were the staff incredibly sound (huge shout-out to them) the acai bowl itself was delicious, jam packed with fruit and peanut butter; it tasted almost like a dessert as opposed to a breakfast dish.
